{"id":1722,"date":"2012-10-24T07:01:55","date_gmt":"2012-10-23T22:01:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hrcjapan.com\/orange-picking-in-nagoya\/"},"modified":"2025-08-28T11:35:37","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T02:35:37","slug":"orange-picking-in-nagoya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hrcjapan.com\/en\/orange-picking-in-nagoya\/","title":{"rendered":"Picking Mikan Oranges in Nagoya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-17140\" style=\"margin: 3px 6px;\" alt=\"satsuma_oranges\" src=\"http:\/\/japaninfoswap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/satsuma_oranges-150x150.gif\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>Late autumn and winter in Japan is orange season, and people go nuts for them.\u00a0 When I first came to Japan they had this amazing orange chu-hai available that has basically ruined orange chu-hai for me forever.\u00a0 It was like an orange crush that made you more handsome and charming!\u00a0 Nothing has matched it since, with the possible exception of real oranges.<\/p>\n<p>In winter and late fall you can buy bags of what we in the west call Satsuma Oranges, the most rebellious of all oranges.\u00a0 Satsuma Oranges, called mikan here in Japan were first grown in modern Satsuma prefecture.\u00a0 They are small, seedless oranges that peel easily and are incredibly sweet.<\/p>\n<p>The harvest season in Aichi and the surrounding area begins in October and run through to December.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 But with October still warm, and December getting cold;
