{"id":2004,"date":"2015-08-27T07:45:18","date_gmt":"2015-08-26T22:45:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hrcjapan.com\/using-jumper-cables\/"},"modified":"2025-08-28T11:35:31","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T02:35:31","slug":"using-jumper-cables","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hrcjapan.com\/en\/using-jumper-cables\/","title":{"rendered":"Using Jumper Cables"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If your battery dies you may be able to use jumper cables to jump start it using another vehicle.\u00a0 This guide will give you an idea of how to use jumper cables in an emergency, but you should refer to your car\u2019s and the cable\u2019s manufacturer\u2019s guides for specific instructions before attempting the procedure.\u00a0 Please remember that incorrectly using cables could damage either or both vehicles, or result in injury.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/japaninfoswap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/jumper_cables.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-27687\" src=\"http:\/\/japaninfoswap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/jumper_cables-500x202.jpg\" alt=\"jumper_cables\" width=\"500\" height=\"202\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Make sure both cars are turned off, and in park or neutral with the parking brakes on.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Connect one end of the red (positive) jumper cable to the positive terminal* on the stalled vehicle (dead) battery.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the other red (positive) jumper cable clamp to the positive terminal of the starting vehicle battery.<\/li>\n<li>Connect one end of the black (negative) jumper cable to the negative terminal* of the starting vehicle battery.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the other black (negative) cable to a clean, unpainted metal surface under the stalled vehicle\u2019s hood, away from the battery; somewhere on the engine block is a good place.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Start the vehicle that\u2019s doing the jumping, and allow it to run for about 2 to 3 minutes before starting the stalled vehicle. &lt;important&gt; Remove the cables in reverse order.\u00a0 Keep the jumped car (stalled vehicle) running for at least 30 minutes to give the battery sufficient time to recharge.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>*The positive terminal should be marked ( + ), or (POS), and\/or have a larger \u201cterminal post.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>*The negative terminal should be marked ( &#8211; ), or (NEG), and\/or have a smaller \u201cterminal post.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you do not have a car, but want one, navigate over to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.LeaseJapan.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.LeaseJapan.com<\/a> and check out our selection of new and used vehicles for sale or lease.
