{"id":3317,"date":"2019-01-11T18:23:05","date_gmt":"2019-01-11T09:23:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hrcjapan.com\/drone-restrictions-in-japan\/"},"modified":"2025-08-28T11:34:53","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T02:34:53","slug":"drone-restrictions-in-japan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hrcjapan.com\/en\/drone-restrictions-in-japan\/","title":{"rendered":"Drone Restrictions in Japan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-37182\" src=\"http:\/\/japaninfoswap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/640px-Quadcopter_camera_drone_in_flight.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/p>\n<p>According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT), you do not need permission to fly a drone as long as you intend to operate your drone in non-prohibited airspace and follow all operational limitations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prohibited Airspace<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you intend to operate your drone in the following airspaces, you are required to obtain permission from the MLIT.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Airspace around airports<\/li>\n<li>Airspace more than 150m above ground and sea level<\/li>\n<li>Airspace above densely populated areas<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div><strong>Operational Conditions<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>You are required to follow the operational conditions listed below unless approved by the MLIT.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Operation only allowed during the daytime<\/li>\n<li>Operation\u00a0only allowed within Visual Line of Sight (VLOS)<\/li>\n<li>Keep more than 30m distance from persons, properties, cars, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Do not operate over event sites where many people gather<\/li>\n<li>Do not transport hazardous materials such as explosives<\/li>\n<li>Do not drop any objects<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>While many high-end drone makers have the no-fly zones and restrictions in their flight computer&#8217;s software preloaded, it is still the responsibility of the pilot to be completely aware of the regulations and allowed airspace.
