Japanese food is famous, and we are perhaps lucky to live in a country in which the cuisine holds such high regard. Even with such a wealth of good food here, sometimes you crave “tastes like home.” Fortunately, if you are jonesing for a particular food or drink (or, often, snack!) from home, many supermarkets and specialty stores cater to international foods in and around Nagoya.<\/p>\n
As is the nature of such stores, the products on sale are predominantly imported and thus can come at a substantially higher cost than back home; however, they are growing increasingly popular with locals and ex-pats alike.<\/p>\n
You probably already know this members-only giant grocery store that carries imported and Japanese goods. With its low wholesale prices and bulk quantities, Costco has become increasingly popular in Japan, regularly featuring on TV shows that marvel at the ‘American-sized’ goods on display. Be prepared for long checkout queues, particularly with Costco tourists!<\/p>\n
costco.co.jp<\/a><\/p>\n There are three major Costco locations, but please be aware that some items available at one may not be available at others.<\/span><\/p>\n Equally important to note is that Costco tends to change which particular credit card company’s cards it accepts. You may show up to find your Visa no longer accepted and requiring a Mastercard instead.<\/p>\n Costco Moriyama<\/strong> Costco Chubu Airport<\/strong> Costco Gifu Hashima<\/strong> Seijo Ishii is a mid-to-high-end supermarket found in many cities, often in or around central train stations, and carries products from all over the world, including French cheese, Australian wine, and American candy. There are many locations around the city, as well as online shopping. Note that a rival chain Caferrant is more or less similar in concept.
