Tokyo’s Best Ice Cream Shops
Spring is upon us. It is one of the best times of the year since it is neither too hot nor too cold, but it often leaves me feeling uneasy as it means we are only a short time away from the usually hot and humid Japanese summer. There are many ways to beat the heat, but my go-to choice will forever be ice cream, and we have some great choices here in Kanto. Sure, you could pop into the nearest convenience store or Baskin-Robbins and grab an icy treat for cheap, and pretty much every tourist trap will happily sell you some soft serve. There are plenty of better options out there that let you explore the city, have a little fun, and of course, have some fantastic ice cream. Giolitti There is a scene in the classic movie “Roman Holiday” where Audrey Hepburn eats a gelato on the Spanish Steps. That gelato came from Giolitti, which with more than 120 years of history, is supposed to be the oldest ice cream shop in Rome. Luckily we don’t need to go to Italy for this experience, though, as there is a shop in Shinjuku serving classic Italian gelato flavors. …
