Japan has a rapidly aging society with a larger percentage of over-65s than anywhere else in the world. This ritual has been practiced in Japan for over 400 years when guests come to someone’s home. The best venue for this is the Maikoya Tea House, a historic townhouse with picturesque gardens in Kyoto’s downtown district.
